GEANZ Common Business Capabilities model

The Government Enterprise Architecture for NZ, GEANZ (pronounced as Genes) is an architectural DNA to modernise, simplify, and standardise the public service while making the most of government investments.

The GEANZ Common Business Capabilities (CBC) model forms part of the GEANZ 2024 Framework which is under development and can be found on this link: https://catalogue.data.govt.nz/dataset/geanz-2024-framework. It is also used to provide categories to find standards and guidance in the GEANZ Standards and Guidance Catalogue https://catalogue.data.govt.nz/dataset/geanz-standards-and-guidance-catalogue.

This data set is the GEANZ Common Business Capabilities (CBC) model. Business Capabilities here refer to a government organisations' ability to use a combination of people, process, data, and technology to deliver to outcomes and outputs for stakeholders. Common Business Capabilities are those that we find are needed by most or even all government organisations. Note this model does not include specific sector or specific agency / organisation service delivery capabilities. For sector and agency specific capabilities The Open Groups Government Reference Model is a recommended resource https://pubs.opengroup.org/togaf-standard/reference-models/government-reference-model.html. Additionally, there are specific models for different sectors which can be combined with the CBC to form a specific business capability model for a government sector or organisation.

This model replaces the Government Business Capability Model https://catalogue.data.govt.nz/dataset/gea-nz-government-business-capabilities and the GEANZ Business Reference Taxonomy https://catalogue.data.govt.nz/dataset/gea-nz-reference-taxonomies. Both of these are merged in this model. Note this new model excludes the specific agency and sector business capabilities that are part of the GEANZ Business Reference Taxonomy. These can still be used but are not being actively maintained.

This model is being developed iteratively and the capability areas in each capability zone are still evolving. These will be included here and updates as changes are suggested and agreed. The content here is a mix of the BETA Release June 2024 and also changes made for a GAMMA release in October 2024. Updates were only made to models where needed.
