Tararua District Faultlines

This file contains fault mapping used to construct Fault Avoidance Zones and Fault Awareness Areas for active and possibly active faults in the TararuaDistrict (GNS CR2021/03). The faults were mapped using LiDAR data, a regional Digital Surface Model provided by Horizons Regional Council, data extracted from previous published mapping and from the current Geological Map of New Zealand 1:250,000 (Heron 2018) and updated where possible. Faults were typically mapped at 1:5000-1:10,000 scalewhere possible. These data should be used to assist future land use planning, particularly with regard to building on "Greenfield" (i.e. previously undeveloped land) sites or in the renovation of buildings in areas adjacent to active faults in accordance to the Ministry for the Environment "Planning for Development on or Close to Active Faults" (Kerr et al., 2003).These data should be used in conjunction with the associated GNS Science report (GNS CR2021/03).
