River Velocity Impact (OpenData)

This entity describes the impact of Urbanisation on the River Environment by calculating the Velocity Impact factor. It is derived from surveyed Water Volume data using raster GIS. Values over 0.1m/s define the Velocity Impact as (Urban) impacted.A river’s velocity refers to the speed at which water moves through its channel. Velocity generally increases with increasing flow, increasing slope, around any feature that causes flow to change direction, and through channel narrowing. It is spatially abstracted to a line.Entity type: Concept.
