In October 2023, the Land Science team at Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (HBRC) commissioned a project to digitise the extent of sediment deposition. This was done using aerial imagery captured on the 13th and 14th of February 2023, following Cyclone Gabrielle. The digitised polygons were categorised based on a confidence rating, which included high, medium, low, or submerged. It’s important to note that the areas classified as submerged were only partially mapped, as comprehensive mapping of these areas was not a requirement of this study. Validation and spatial analysis were then undertaken on the output to determine the impact across catchments, land use and land use capability (LUC). In total, 26,465 ha were mapped to varying confidence. The extent of this mapping is within the area of the aerial imagery Hawke’s Bay 0.10 m Cyclone Gabrielle Aerial Photos from LINZ Data Service. https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/112726-hawkes-bay-010m-cyclone-gabrielle-aerial-photos-2023/First Created: 7 June 2024Update and Maintenance Frequency: UnplannedMetadata Updated: 7 June 2024
