CMA Landward Boundaries for key Southland rivers

Coastal Marine Area Landward Boundary points at key Southland rivers. The boundary between the Southland Coastal Plan and the Southland Water and Land Plan determines where the jurisdiction of one plan ends and the other starts, this is called the Coastal Marine Area (CMA) Landward Boundary.  The ‘Southland Region Agreement for the Positions of River Mouths’ defines the coordinates of the river mouth and CMA Landward Boundary positions for key Southland rivers. This layer displays the agreed coordinates to visually present the CMA Landward Boundary for users of both Plans. For each of the key rivers shown, the CMA Landward Boundary line is a straight line at right angles to the river flow, from bank to bank, through the point relating to that river.  For all other rivers, the CMA Landward Boundary point is the lesser of1 kilometre upstream from the mouth of the river; orthe point upstream that is calculated by multiplying the width of the river mouth by 5.For these rivers, the mouth is a straight line that connects the mean high water springs on each side of the river.
