Areas Of Ecological Importance

The 2012 Code of Conduct for Minimising Acoustic Disturbance to Marine Mammals from Seismic Survey Operationsprovides a high degree of protection for marine mammals throughout New Zealand waters and the AEI boundaries provides critical information to seismic survey proponents at the planning stage.Boundaries have been defined by analysing available databases for information on marine mammal distributions and engaging with interest groups and stakeholders with specialist knowledge about marine mammal sensitivities.
