Participation in tertiary education in New Zealand

The purpose of this report is to build an understanding of how school leavers are transitioning into tertiary education. The report examines the transitions of 2004 school leavers into tertiary education by a variety of personal, schooling and tertiary education characteristics and seeks to show where differences exist.

Data about participation in tertiary by students and participation in tertiary education, qualification completion, operating revenue and surplus by providers.

Statistics relating to attainment, attrition, retention and completion of students at tertiary education providers and through industry training.

Statistics relating to the funding and resourcing of tertiary education in New Zealand, including tuition subsidies, tuition fees and staffing.

Statistics relating to financial support for tertiary students including student loans, allowances and scholarships.

Statistics on students' participation and achievement in learning that contributes to their knowledge of the world, that provide a picture of students' development of international and intercultural skills, and students' uptake of opportunities for study overseas.

Students' attitudes to science based on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey.

Data on the number of students involved with the Ongoing resourcing scheme (ORS) as at 1 July.

Data on the number of school leavers by highest attainment from 2009 onward.

Percentage of students staying on at school to age 17.

Data about annual growth in the number of licensed ECE services, annual growth in the number of licensed ECE services per child (age-weighted 0-4 year-old population), and percentage of services with waiting times.

Performance Based Research Fund (PBRF) eligible staff who received an A or B quality rating.
