Aerially assisted trophy hunting (AATH), also known as heli-hunting, involves flying recreational hunters and their guides into high country areas by helicopter in search of trophy animals. This includes actively searching for wild animals with trophy potential, dropping off hunters and guides to ground shoot the wild animal and the recovery of the animal and hunters/guides by helicopter.AATH concessions do not provide approval for the live capture of wild animals. There is also a requirement on the concessionaire to kill other wild animals (offsets), as directed by DOC, to improve wild animal control.AATH concessions are generally set for a given period of time to enable blocks and permit conditions to be reviewed. There may be local instances where block access is required to be temporarily changed (e.g. due to safety concerns or land management reasons). This will result in edits to this dataset. This data was last updated on 2/12/2024, based on a review process in 2022 and limited amendment in 2024.Further information on AATH blocks and how to apply for permits is available on our website here: Aerially-assisted trophy hunting (AATH): Permits and licences*DISCLAIMER1.
